Dessert Party

During our stint as hotel dwellers, our friends kept us well fed, bringing us home cooked meals.  We wanted to do something in return, but I knew that I couldn't pull off dinner for 20 people.  The solution: a dessert party, but at dinner time so our kids could get to bed at a decent hour.  I love to bake cakes, and people like to eat cakes.  Win-win.

The Menu

Mocha Fudge Truffle Cake
(I'll type this one out if anybody wants it)

Angel Food Cake with strawberries, mangos and homemade whipped cream
(from the old Betty Crocker cookbook)

(time consuming, but so worth it)

Cinnamon roasted almonds, pecans and cashews

Beverages

Wine, wine, wine
Milk
Coffee
and
Homemade organic carrot, apple, and ginger juice
(I did not make the juice; a friend brought it and it was awesome!)

Goody Bags/Party Gifts
Snack size bags of organic baby carrots for the ride home.  (A conscience clearer)

Blake totally took advantage of the whole "cake for dinner" idea.

We enjoyed having people over, and the kids had a blast.  At one point, the base broke on their inflatable baseball tee, spilling 5 pounds of rice on the floor.  Instead of cleaning it up, we let the kids play.  They had so much fun; and boy, oh, boy did we have fun cleaning it up!

The aftermath

Blake appears to have gotten over his tough breakup with the weinermobile.  He has a new crush, and she's more than twice his age.  He calls out her name, recognizes her mom's car, and tonight he got up the guts to try to kiss her.  He cornered in the hallway and looked up at her with kissy lips.  Her response: "Disgusting!"  Sorry kid, it's a tough world.  Luckily, his sugar high got him through the night, and he didn't let the rejection get him down.

How could you resist kissing that face?

  1. Hilarious! If sweet Blake only knew that I have heard the word "diz-gusting" incorrectly used over 50 times in the last day he wouldn't take it personally.
Fantastic gathering with fantastic people. So glad you are home and thank you for the yummy treat dinner. I keep thinking about those lemon cookies (all the deliciousness of the pie without the so-so crust = perfect).
